Freelancer calculator
Model A vs Model B · calculated per quarter
Are you already insured on another basis (employed / pensioner)? The two freelancer models in Serbia
Individuals in Serbia who earn income from abroad without a registered business report it quarterly and may choose between two models. The choice is made separately for each quarter — you can use one model in one quarter and the other in the next, depending on how much you earned.
Model A
- Standardised costs: a fixed 110,647 RSD per quarter
- Tax rate 20% on the base
- Pension contributions 24%
- Better for lower and irregular income, thanks to the high fixed deduction
Model B
- Standardised costs: 66,733 RSD plus 34% of gross income
- Tax rate 10% on the base
- Pension contributions 24%, with a minimum base
- Better at higher income, because the deduction scales with earnings
Health contributions of 10.3% are payable only if you are not already insured on another basis — for example through employment or as a pensioner. That is why the calculator asks.
When a registered business becomes cheaper
Above a certain level of income, registering as a flat-rate sole proprietor is usually cheaper than either freelancer model, and it also lets you invoice clients properly. Where the line falls depends on your income and situation — compare the figures with the flat-rate calculator, or ask us to run it for you.
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch between Model A and Model B?
Yes. The model is chosen separately for each quarter, so you can use Model A in one quarter and Model B in the next depending on the income earned.
When is the freelancer tax return filed?
Income is reported quarterly, within 30 days of the end of the quarter, through the Tax Administration's online portal.
Do I pay health contributions?
Only if you are not already covered on another basis. If you are employed elsewhere or receive a pension, health contributions are not charged on your freelance income.
Is freelance income also subject to the annual income tax?
Yes, it counts towards your total annual income. If the total exceeds the threshold, you also file the annual personal income tax return — see the annual income tax calculator.
Not sure which model to choose?
Send us your quarterly figures and we will tell you which model is cheaper — and whether registering a business would be cheaper still.
